Las Vegas Sightseeing
Las Vegas sightseeing options are almost unlimited. You could spend a week on the Strip alone and only just scratch the surface. But the fun really just begins on the Strip. There is a whole lot to see off Strip and outside of Las Vegas too.
When you stay on the Strip, there are usually a good number of things to see and do right in your hotel, especially at one of the great newer properties like CityCenter or the Venetian. But no matter how great your hotel, you are probably going to want to see others too, and the Strip is miles long, so you are going to need a way to get around.
You have several options, to get around the Strip. One of the most popular is the Deuce bus service, run by the city. “The Deuce” runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The buses are clean and new. Their main downside is that they can get very crowded when there are a lot of people in town, and you can have to wait to board a bus.
Other ways to get around are via the Las Vegas monorail, which runs between the Convention Center and MGM Grand. This is a great way to get from mid-Strip to the South Strip resorts, but it doesn’t go very far past Flamingo Road along the Strip, so it doesn’t get to Venetian, Wynn, Stratosphere, or a bunch of other places, and it doesn’t go to downtown. You can also take cabs everywhere, though that can get expensive.
A great way to see the Strip in all its glory is a Las Vegas helicopter tour. Tours run night and day, but night time tours of the Strip are absolutely spectacular, as the lights of the hotels and casinos make for quite breathtaking show.
You can check out an actual night time helicopter tour in the high def video above to get a very good idea what you can experience. It really is an experience you will never forget.
Of course, if you choose to stay on the ground, you can still see it all. And you can even get a great birds eye view of everything from either the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas or the tower at Stratosphere, which is located on the far North Strip and which give a great unobstructed view of the Strip, downtown, and the surrounding landscape, including the beautiful desert mountain ranges, some of which can be snow-capped in the winter.
And off the Strip, there is much to see as well, starting with some great museums, like the Atomic Testing Museum at 755 East Flamingo Road, just a couple blocks east of the Strip. This is a really fun little museum associated with the Smithsonian and well worth an afternoon visit.
Outside of the city, Red Rock Canyon is only about 25 miles to the west and is really quite stunning and a great place to get away from it all, hike, and take in some magnificent nature. And the other direction, the Hoover Dam and Lake Meade are a short drive away. Tours of the dam and its pumping towers are really fascinating, and the dam and beautiful lake are absolute marvels.
