Golden Nugget Las Vegas

The Golden Nugget Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas is the finest resort on Fremont Street, bar none. This AAA four diamond rated resort has beautiful rooms and interior spaces, all recently renovated in a beautiful modern style.

But what is really amazing about this hotel is the pool area. It is something you simply don’t expect to find in downtown Vegas, more known for its historic, vintage casinos and bright neon lights than its innovative, modern facilities. But take a look at the pool area in the video below – it’s even more amazing in person, but the video should give you some idea just how cool it is.

Opened in 1946, the Golden Nugget has seen its share of history over the years. It was Steve Wynn’s first Vegas property, after he bought a majority stake in the resort back in 1973. Wynn owned the hotel right up until 2000, when he sold it, along with his stakes in the Mirage, Treasure Island, and Bellagio, to raise money to build his namesake Wynn Hotel.

The resort has been renovated extensively over the past few years and expansions have been added, including a new 500 room hotel tower, which opened in 2009. The renovations have cost a total in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and have transformed the place into a truly modern and spectacular property.

There are currently 2,345 rooms in the hotel, making it one of the larger facilities in the downtown/Freemont Street area and in all of Las Vegas.

The true star attraction of the Golden Nugget these days is its amazing pool area, which contains two large shark tank aquariums. There is also a water slide which runs form the third deck of the pool area right through one of the aquariums (in a clear tube).

The water slide is quite a thrill and great fun, and it is enough to make this hotel one of the top destinations in Las Vegas.
