There are more and more great thrill rides in Vegas these days, but one that has been around a while remains very popular, and that is the Roller Coaster at the New York, New York Hotel and Casino.
The coaster is a good one, that has a rise of 203 feet, a drop of 144 feet, and a maximum speed of 67 miles per hour as it whisks you from the casino structure through and above a mock Manhattan skyline. For a taste of what to expect, watch the video below.
The views of the Strip from the top of the coaster are really quite excellent, though you might have your mind on other things, like the huge plunge you are about to experience.
You can buy individual ride tickets for about $14 each, but the day pass is a much better deal at $25, because you know that after you summon the courage to ride it the first time, you are going to want to ride it again and again. (And maybe by your fifth ride or so, you will be blase enough to actually enjoy that view.)
The ride was revamped a few years back, replacing the cares with new ones that resemble New York cabs. While the coaster is not quite as scary as your first real New York cab ride, it is quite a thrill nonetheless.
A uniquely Las Vegas style offering is the option to get married on the roller coaster, so that you can “take the plunge” then take another plunge down the slope of the coaster.
The ride is pretty intense, with some crazy twists and turns, so parents might want to ride it first before letting the little ones on it. There’s also a 54 inch minimum height restriction to take into account.
But all in all, its a high quality coaster experience and a great ride for the family, especially if you are staying at the nearby Mandalay Bay, Excalibur, or MGM Grand.
