Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino

The Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino is where Sin City originally began, way back in 1946, when Bugsy Siegel invested 6 million in the original 100 room resort (long since demolished).

The hotel that stands today was constructed in different segments between 1967 and 1995, when the last of four towers was built (after the original Bugsy Siegel building was demolished in 1993). There are now over 3,600 rooms in the Flamingo, making it one of the Strip’s largest hotels.

The place has seen better days, but it is still a nice resort, and the central garden, with its penguins, koi fish ponds, ducks, and, yes, flamingos, is quite a tropical paradise and a popular spot for outdoor weddings in their courtyard chapel, one of the most picturesque places for weddings in town.

The casino might not be quite as large as some of today’s bigger places, but it still seems quite impressive when you are in it, with over 2,000 slots along with all the standard card and roulette tables.

But the Flamingo’s biggest draw, besides it’s still-cool old Vegas style marquee, is its location right at the heart of the Center Strip, across from Caesars and diagonally across from Bellagio. If you want to see it all, then this is a great place to call home base and explore, without paying top dollar price.

Flamingo Entertainment and Nightlife

There are always a lot of shows to see here in this resort, from Donnie and Marie to Nathan Burton Comedy Magic to George Wallace. There’s also a burlesque show, X Burlesque, for more adult-oriented entertainment.

The pool area here is quite large and wonderfully decorated with tropical plants. It includes three separate pools on 15 acres along with a hot tub. There is also a 21 and over adult pool club called Go Pool.

The night life here is a bit limited when compared to those elsewhere on the Strip, especially at many of the newer resorts. There is the Margaritaville Restaurant out front on Las Vegas Boulevard and the Sin City Brewery, and that’s about it.

But you can always head right across the street to the many great night spots at Caesars and only have a short walk home to your perfectly nice room at the Flamingo. The only difference is you will pay a bit less than the people staying across the street, and here you get the flamingos, the penguins and a pretty good, still cheap buffet. Not a bad deal at all.
