Planet Hollywood Las Vegas Hotel and Casino
Formerly the Aladdin, The Planet Hollywood Hotel was born in 2007 as a re-branding of the new Aladdin Casino which had opened only seven years earlier.
The new look, under the Planet Hollywood banner is far more glamorous and appealing, starting with the stunning and eye-catching Miracle Mile Shops facade that fronts the Strip across from the Cosmopolitan and part of the Bellagio property.
A quick walk across the street to the Cosmo, Bellagio, and CityCenter, and located right next to Paris Las Vegas and its ever popular Eiffel Tower, Planet Hollywood is very centrally located and a great, central location from which to explore the rest of the Strip resorts and attractions.
The hotel is just as nice if not nicer on the inside. It has a hip, young vibe and a crowd to match. The lobby and casino are decorated in a mix or art deco and modern/electronica that works far batter than it sounds.
But while it has a chic look and crowd, it doesn’t feel at all stuck up or pretentious either. It feels relaxed, not as crowded as some of the better known places, and a great spot to just chill, play some slots, and have one great meal at their buffet (located down an escalator accessed from the middle of the casino). There is also a very nice mezzanine area overlooking the casino where you can relax, grab a drink or a coffee from the Starbucks, even read a book.
Planet Hollywood Shopping and Entertainment
The shopping here is quite excellent and a bit less up-scale (read: expensive) than some of the other new shopping areas on the strip. Easily accessed from the street, the shops also make a great getaway from the often searing heat as you explore the strip in the summer.
The Miracle Mile Shops are actually a quite large interior mall that runs from the front of the property alongside and behind the casino. There are in all 170 specialty stores in the shopping area, which is run separately from Planet Hollywood but which has several entrances to both the casino and the hotel.
Here you will find such stores as H&M , Build-A-Bear Workshop, Urban Outfitters, BCBG, and X Workshop. There is also a really cool indoor water fountain that has jets shooting the water up high into the air. There’s even a fountain show that includes special lighting and fog effects that plays every hour during the daytime. It’s not the Bellagio, but it’s inside and worth checking out if you are in the shops.
Drawing upon the Planet Hollywood motif, there’s a 1,500 seat theater on the upper level of the hotel lobby area that is used to premier movies. there’s also the truly massive Theatre for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood, which seats an amazing 7,000 people and is one of the best concert venues in all of Las Vegas.
In addition to the award-winning buffet, there are a total of 15 restaurants between the hotel and the shops, so there really is something for everyone to eat. For adults, check out the fun and oh-so-Vegas Strip House, which is a sexy twist on the traditional steak house.
And when you are ready for some night time action, there is the Krave nightclub next to the Miracle Mile Shops. This is billed as the Strip’s only alternative club, and it has become THE gay club in Vegas, both for the locals and for out of towners too.
