South Point Hotel and Casino

Located six miles south of the Mandalay Bay resort is the South Point Hotel and Casino. It is technically not on “the Strip”, though it is situated on Las Vegas Boulevard. It’s much too far away to walk to other casinos, but there is a lot to see and do at this 2,100 room resort.

The South Point is one of the first places you notice if you arrive in town from California on the I-15 freeway. Its gleaming golden tinted windows really stand out from the surrounding desert terrain.

But it’s when you stop and check out the inside of the resort that you realize what a quality establishment this is. From the common areas to the eateries to the hotel rooms, this is a great place all around.

The theme at South Point is “Southern California modern,” and it has a light and airy feel to it inside and out.

There is a lotto do at this resort, with both its diversity of activities and the quality of its rooms placing it on par with some of the best of the new casinos in the heart of the Strip. The rooms are large and beautifully decorated, complete with 42 inch flat screen TVs.

There is a beautiful equestrian center on the property with a 4,500 seat arena for everything from horse shows to rodeos and even concerts.

The hotel has a nice large pool with a waterfall and a hot tub too. And there is a nice spa on the property, the Spa Costa Del Sur, offering an array of treatments to help you relax and look your best.

While there is no nightlife on the site, there is a 16 screen movie complex and a gleaming 64 lane bowling alley that is open late into the night, meaning there is always something to do when you are not playing the tables or the slot machines.

As for dining options, there are plenty at the resort, from the requisite all you can eat buffet to a range of other restaurants and eating establishments (ten in all). So you will never go hungry or want for a lack of choice in dining.

This really is a great place to come for a weekend to just relax, play in the casino, and catch a movie and a few games of bowling. It doesn’t offer the excitement, trendy clubs, or glamor of the heart of the Vegas Strip, but it is a beautiful hotel and casino nonetheless.
